Penguins Logo Revealed For Winter Classic 2011

Here's a sneak peek at the logo the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals will be using for the 2011 Winter Classic at Heinz Field. The press conference is scheduled for 12:00 EST, and this and other details about the game will be revealed. For the Penguins, Mario Lemieux, Ray Shero, Sidney Crosby will be among those in attendance.

As expected, the logo is blast from the past of both teams. No word if the Caps will be wearing their infamous white pants.

UPDATE: NHL.com has details.

UPDATE: The Post-Gazette has a closer look at the logos.

That looks cool

Is it bad that I’m kinda “meh” on the idea of a winter classic at Heinz Field?

As a Penn State guy I’m much more intrigued by Flyers-Pens at Beaver Stadium than Pens-Caps in the generic Heinz Field. It just doesn’t appear to lend itself to the scene they’ve tried to create with this event in the past. I like seeing unique venues and hockey put together. There’s really nothing special about Heinz.

Yeah, no doubt that Flyers/Pens in the middle of the state would have been a lot more electric. I guess since Philly was just in the game last season they didn’t want to go that route.

Not breaking...

This isn’t exactly a sneak…this logo has been all over the internet since the announcement came out.

The Winter Classic logo has been out for some time, but not officially what the two teams would be using.

That logo suggests

that we are going to see the first season uniforms with the diagonal lettering.

The original Pens logo had that sweater. It’s finally, officially the retro throwback. They were halfway there with the blue, but it was more of a hybrid.
