Dejan Kovacevic reports that the Pirates have recalled first baseman / outfielder John Bowker, and sent Jeff Clement to Indianapolis to begin a rehab assignment.

Bowker has posted consistently excellent minor league numbers throughout his career, but just as consistently, he has failed to produce at the big-league level. Still, as a bit of an unknown, I’d probably rather have him out there than Ryan Doumit or Garrett Jones at this point. Like Jones, though, Bowker is left-handed, so playing time may be tough to come by.
