The Pittsburgh Steelers voted on their team captains recently. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who is serving a month-long suspension after being accused of rape for the second time in as many offseasons, was not among them.
Instead, the captains are wide receiver Hines Ward, tight end Heath Miller, middle linebacker James Farrior, and backup linebacker and special teams standout Keyaron Fox.
Roethlisberger wasn't the only former captain to get snubbed by his teammates this year: kicker Jeff Reed and outside linebacker James Harrison, both former captains, were not among those to receive the honor.
It's probably a good thing that Roethlisberger wasn't selected. After all, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell recently reduced Roethlisberger's suspension for four games to six -- to Terry Bradshaw's dismay -- a positive development for the Steelers' on-field production, but perhaps not for the purposes of humbling Roethlisberger into finally behaving himself.
