Bowling Green Vs. West Virginia: Mountaineers Crush Falcons 55-10 To Move To 4-1

It was a rainy, miserable day in Morgantown, but the weather couldn’t keep the West Virginia Mountaineers from trouncing their MAC competition, the Bowling Green Falcons, 55-10.

Despite falling behind 10-3 early in the first quarter, it was all West Virginia after that. The Mountaineers dispatched their overmatched competition with aplomb, with quarterback Geno Smith and running back Dustin Garrison leading the way.

The running game has been West Virginia’s Achilles heel so far this season, but true freshman Dustin Garrison has cemented his place in the lineup, rushing for nearly three hundred yards and a pair of touchdowns. Garrison’s 291 yards rushing is tied for second-most all time for the Mountaineers. Only Kay-Jay Harris’s 337 yards against ECU in 2004 represent a better rushing day for the Mountaineers. WVU rushed for more yards this afternoon than they’d compiled all season to this point.

While the running game will get tons of well-deserved praise, the play of quarterback Geno Smith can’t be overlooked. The junior quarterback piled up three touchdowns and 238 yards passing. Geno wasn’t called on to make the plays he had to make last week, but he still turned in a top-notch performance.

West Virginia enters Big East play next week against UConn. At 4-1, WVU has the best overall record of anyone else in the Big East and are expected to run the table to a conference title. Only time will tell.
