The West Virginia Mountaineeers easily beat the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles Monday night, 72-53, in Morgantown. Kevin Jones had 25 points and 14 rebounds for WVU, while shooting 11-for-20 from the floor. Truck Bryant shot 4-for-12 but had 15 points, and Deniz Kilicli had 12 points. Jud Dillard led Tennessee Tech with 15 points.
The game was close early on, but two straight three-pointers by Paul Williamson midway through the first half opened an eight-point lead for the Mountaineers. The first half ended with WVU up 33-26.
The Mountaineers began to add to that lead early in the second half, and they kept piling on as Jones began to take over. With nine minutes left in the second half, WVU was up by 19 points. The Golden Eagles couldn’t do nearly enough offensively after that to get back in the game.
WVU’s next game is against Missouri State, on Thursday.
