Duquesne star Damian Saunders will begin his professional career in Germany, the Trib reports. He'll play for BG Göttingen, in the central part of the country.
↵Saunders' hometown paper has some information from his new coach:
↵↵↵"Damian Saunders is the kind of forward we were looking for," said head coach Stefan Mienack via e-mail. "He is a very good defender and can play inside and outside on offense. He is used to the fast and intense playing style we prefer."
↵
BG Göttingen is in Basketball Bundesliga, which is the top German basketball league. They not only play other German teams, but other European teams as well. Saunders also notes that there's at least some chance of moving into the EuroLeague. Obviously, in any case, this will be a terrific opportunity for him to get to know a new part of the world, as well.
↵Saunders averaged 12.6 points and 7.0 rebounds for the Dukes last season. He also averaged 2.3 steals and 2.7 blocks.
