Jerry Sandusky has been transferred from Centre County jail to a state prison, although it's unclear where the sex offender will serve the 30-plus year term that is essentially a life sentence.

The former Penn State assistant was moved Tuesday to the State Correctional Institute at Camp Hill, according to the Associated Press, after spending the months since his conviction in June in the county jail. There, he will undergo testing to determine his mental and physical status and whether he needs special treatment. He will also be assigned a security level. After this process, which could take up to a week, Sandusky will be assigned to a prison, where he will likely spend the majority of the rest of his life.

Pennsylvania's prison system does not maintain special units for sex offenders. Although Sandusky's could hypothetically outlive his sentence, which is for 30-60 years, Judge John Cleland said that the term was intended as a life sentence. The 67-year-old Sandusky maintains his innocence and vows to fight the case on a variety of grounds, including that his defense wasn't given sufficient time to prepare for the charges made against him.
