Big Ten scores: Michigan State upsets Wisconsin, Northwestern beats Iowa

Ohio State remained undefeated with a 35-23 victory over Penn State Saturday night. Here's a look at the rest of what happened around the Big Ten.

Ohio State vs. Penn State score update: Still scoreless after 1st quarter

Penn State and Ohio State are scoreless through the first quarter of Saturday's game. Both teams are undefeated through Big Ten action looking to hand the other its first conference loss of the season.

The Nittany Lions failed on both of their third-down attempts, while the Buckeyes weren't much better, just converting on one of five third-down attempts. So the defenses are highlighting the action at this point in the game. There were only 112 total yards offense between the two teams in the first quarter.

Penn State quarterback Matthew McGloin connected on three of his five pass attempts for 25 yards. Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller is struggling to complete his passes for the Buckeyes with just four completions on 10 throws for 45 yards.

Despite the defensive battle, there were no turnovers in the opening period. Ohio State was penalized twice for a total of 20 yards, while Penn State had just one 15-yard penalty. '

Ohio State vs. Penn State: Braxton Miller will be challenge for Nittany Lions

The Penn State Nittany Lions will have their hands full when they face quarterback Braxton Miller and the Ohio State Buckeyes Saturday at 5:30 at Beaver Stadium. The sophomore is ultra-dangerous as a rushing option, piling up 959 yards and a 6.8 yards-per-carry average so far this season, but he's also no slouch through the air, passing for 1384 yards with 11 touchdowns and five interceptions.

"You’d have to compare to the quarterback (Denard Robinson) at Michigan," Penn State linebackers coach Ron Vanderlinden said. "Every year, I think you’ve got a couple of players that are just tremendous challenges with their feet and their arm, and certainly Braxton is right up there."

Miller will reportedly be ready to go after being injured against Purdue last week.

The OSU-PSU matchup could be a shootout, because not only should Miller cause problems for Penn State, but, as Scott Brown notes in the article linked above, Penn State quarterback Matt McGloin has blossomed under Bill O'Brien's offense. After early losses to Ohio and Virginia, the Nittany Lions have scored over 30 points in four of their last five games, with McGloin leading the way, throwing 10 touchdowns and one interception in that span.
