Pirates' Frank Coonelly speaks on Altoona's ESPN station

Charles LeClaire-US PRESSWIRE

It certainly doesn't sound like the Pirates are in the midst of a front-office shakeup.

Amid reports about the Pirates' quasi-military workouts, there have recently been rumors of a shakeup in the Pirates' front office. As I suggested yesterday, though, it doesn't look likely the Bucs will fire Neal Huntington anytime soon, simply because the beginning of the offseason is upon us, and this would be a difficult time to find a replacement.

Now Frank Coonelly has done an interview with Cory Giger in Altoona (it's near the end), which strikes me as significant in itself -- Coonelly hasn't done many interviews since his DUI arrest, and one wouldn't think he would do one now if his job or the jobs of Neal Huntington or Kyle Stark were in danger. (It is, however, a little strange that Coonelly would be doing an interview in Altoona and not in Pittsburgh.) Also, Coonelly offers his support for Kyle Stark and Larry Broadway. It's possible Coonelly could be doing this without talking to Bob Nutting, of course, but it's not likely. It's looking more like Huntington and Stark will stay with the Pirates, at least for now.
