Andrew McCutchen wins NL Gold Glove

Alex Trautwig

The Pirates' center fielder takes home his first Gold Glove.

Andrew McCutchen had a 2012 season that had him in the discussion for several postseason awards, and Tuesday night, he took one of them home for the first time in his career. McCutchen won the National League Gold Glove as the top defensive center fielder in the league, a first for the 26-year old.

McCutchen is only the 16th player in Pirates' history to win a Gold Glove and the first since Nate McLouth won in 2008. McCutchen was nominated with Michael Bourn and the Cincinnati Reds' Drew Stubbs, a rival in the National League Central Division.

McCutchen already knows he is a finalist for the voting for National League MVP. He has been named as one of the top-five vote-getters for the award, which will be announced on Nov. 15. McCutchen still has a long way to go to catch Pirates great Roberto Clemente, who won a record 12 Gold Gloves in a row.
