Pitt vs. Michigan: Panthers holding on to 33-29 lead

Jim McIsaac

Facing No. 4 Michigan, Pitt holds a slim 33-29 lead in the NIT Tip-off semifinals at Madison Square Garden.

The Panthers are using a balanced attack with nine players scoring so far. Pitt's deep bench is leading the way with 21 of the team's points and sophomore reserve guard Cameron Wright leads all players with eight.

Another bright spot for Pitt is the play of Lamar Patterson. He had five early points and even though he hasn't scored since then, he's done it on 2-3 shooting, leads Pitt with four rebounds, and has added three assists. After a few rough games, Patterson appears to be shaking some of that off.

For Michigan, guard Trey Burke is giving the Panthers fits. He leads all scorers with nine points and even though he's only 3-8 from the field, he's repeatedly gotten into the paint and kept the Panthers' defenders on their toes. If the Wolverines come back to win the game, count on Burke having another big half.

In the other semifinal matchup, Kansas State defeated Delaware, so the winner of this game will take on the Wildcats.
