What seemed an impossibility earlier in the year could now turn into a reality - there's an outside chance that Pitt and West Virginia could square off in the Pinstripe Bowl.

After a hot start, the Mountaineers have floundered in the difficult Big 12. West Virginia began the season 5-0, but has since lost five straight games and at .500, have fallen down the conference standings. Because of that, ESPN's Andrea Adelson, now projects the team to play in the Pinstripe Bowl.

While Adelson picks Syracuse to face the Mountaineers, that spot could easily go to Pitt if they can find a way to win their remaining two games. The first one this weekend against Rutgers will be a tough contest, but the Panthers get the game at home. And the season finale comes against South Florida, one of the worst teams in the conference. If that happens, look for the bowl organizers to do what they can to set up a game between the two long-time rivals.
