TCU vs. West Virginia final score: Horned Frogs win thriller in 2OT, 39-38

A wild, wacky battle between the Big 12's two newest teams needed overtime to be decided. With the West Virginia Mountaineers and TCU Horned Frogs tied 31-31 after four quarters of play, it was TCU that came out with the 39-38 win in double overtime.

Both schools attempted field goals in overtime. TCU went first and missed from 37 yards out. West Virginia then had their 36-yard attempt blocked.

In double overtime, the first play for the Mountaineers was a 25-yard touchdown strike from Geno Smith to Stedman Bailey.

TCU then responded with a trick play; they handed the ball off to their running back, who then flipped it on a reverse to wide receiver Brandon Carter. Carter then passed to tight end Corey Fuller, who was wide open and trotted into the end zone. See it here:

With the score 37-36, TCU decided to go for two and win the game. Trevone Boykin hit Boyce on a slant to win the game. The play was reviewed, and while it looked like a possible trap, the referees deemed it was a catch.

TCU wins 39-38.

Box Score Hero: Boyce was great all game long. He ended with six receptions for 180 yards, as well as two touchdown scores and the game-winning two-point conversion.

Rankings Ramifications: West Virginia will almost certainly fall out of the top 25.

But Did They Cover? WVU entered as 6 1/2 point favorites, so they did not cover.
