Chargers vs. Steelers reaction: Pittsburgh cornerbacks, wide receivers have bad game

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

The Steelers really struggled in Week 14 as Ben Roethlisberger made his return to the field.

The Pittsburgh Steelers seemingly had everything working in their favor in Week 14. Veteran quarterback Ben Roethlisberger made the start after missing the past couple of weeks with injuries, and they were hosting a Chargers team that had really struggled the past two months.

Instead of moving closer towards a playoff berth on Sunday, Pittsburgh was sloppy against the Chargers and ended up losing, 34-24. The final score was not really indicative of how unclose the game was throughout, and the coaching staff now has plenty to correct in practice the next couple days.

As SB Nation's Steelers blog, Behind The Steel Curtain, reflected on the loss, they pointed out that the play from the wide receivers and cornerbacks was really bad. Here is what they had to say about Pittsburgh's two most talented receivers.

Mike Wallace and Antonio Brown - appearing together to point out hope is lost on these two for the season. Wallace grabbed two touchdowns and Brown had one - all in garbage time - and both had big dropped passes while their quarterback was yet again fleeing for his life. Wallace let a pass go through his hands with green in front of him and the pass to Brown (what would have been a career highlight play by Roethlisberger) bounced off his chest. Some old money would do the Steelers well about now.

The Steelers have another tough challenge next week as they hit the road to take on the Cowboys. Dallas has been playing inspired football the past couple of weeks, and both teams find themselves right in the middle of the playoff race. If the Steelers hope to win, Wallace and Brown will have to play better.
