The WVU women’s basketball team will be a No. 8 seed in the Women’s NCAA Tournament. The Mountaineers will play their first-round game against the University of Texas in Norfolk, Va. on Saturday, March 17 at 11:10 a.m. Texas (18-13, 8-10) struggled against tough Big 12 competition, but did pull off two wins against Texas A&M.
West Virginia (23-9, 11-5) played a conference slate that, Baylor aside, was a lot tougher than Texas’, and handled it better overall. Despite the similar seeds, the Mountaineers should be a favorite in the first round.
If West Virginia wins its first game, it would likely have to face top-seeded Stanford in the second round. Here’s the rest of WVU’s region.
No. 1 Stanford vs. No. 16 Hampton
No. 8 West Virginia vs. No. 9 Texas
No. 5 South Carolina vs. No. 12 Eastern Michigan
No. 4 Purdue vs. No. 13 South Dakota State
No. 6 Oklahoma vs. No. 11 Michigan
No. 3 St. John’s vs. No. 14 Creighton
No. 7 Vanderbilt vs. No. 10 Middle Tennessee
No. 2 Duke vs. No. 15 Samford
