NCAA Wrestling Championships: Penn State's Nico Megaludis Falls In 125-Pound Final

Stay connected for news and updates

Penn State's Nico Megaludis fell by a score of 4-1 against Iowa's No. 1 seeded Matt McDonough in the 125-pound title bout on Saturday at the NCAA wresting championships in St. Louis.

Megaludis, the No. 10 seed in the tournament, exceeded expectations much of the weekend, taking down three higher seeds on his way to the final, so the true freshman will probably be pretty happy with his result despite the defeat. The Murrysville native, named one of Penn State's six All-Americans, finished his season with a 28-8 record.

His match was the first of five that will feature Penn State wrestlers through this championship night. Frank Molinaro, Ed Ruth, Quentin Wright and David Taylor are all still awaiting their bouts.

The Nittany Lions clinched the team title (barring penalty points) earlier in the day when Dylan Alton finished his tournament with a third-place finish at 157 pounds.

For the latest on Penn State's efforts at the NCAA championships, be sure to stay tuned to SB Nation Pittsburgh.
