NCAA Women's Tournament 2012, West Virginia Vs. Stanford Final Score: Mountaineers Season Comes To An End With 17-Point Loss To No. 1 Cardinal

The No. 8 seed West Virginia Mountaineers bowed out of the 2012 Women's NCAA Tournament on Monday night with a 72-55 loss to No. 1 seed Stanford. The Cardinal blitzed WVU mid-way through the first half with an 18-0 run and would never look back, taking complete control and avoiding the second-round upset. The Cardinal's Amber Orrange was simply too much to handle for West Virginia, as the freshman point guard finished with a game-high 18 points while grabbing seven boards and dishing five assists.

If WVU wanted to pull of the upset, they had to shoot the ball well to shock Stanford, but the Mountaineers instead went ice cold from the field and never really mounted a challenge in the second half. As a team, WVU shot just 31 percent from the field - making it academic. Ayana Dunning led all WVU players with 13 points and nine rebounds, but she was only one of two players in double figures. West Virginia finishes the season at 24-10.
