Robert Morris fell to Fairfield in the quarterfinals of the CIT Wednesday night, losing 67-61.
Fairfield steamrolled the Colonials down the stretch in the first half, building a 15-point lead with five minutes left to play before the break. Mike McFadden and Velton Jones led a comeback bid in the second half, and RMU got within two points after a foul shot by McFadden with less than two minutes left to play, but Fairfield ultimately held on.
McFadden had 20 points and seven rebounds for RMU in the loss. Maurice Barrow had 19 points and nine rebounds for Fairfield.
Robert Morris finishes its season 26-11.
Mercer and Utah State also advanced in the CIT on Tuesday, beating Old Dominion and Loyola Marymount, respectively. Mercer will take on Fairfield Saturday night at 7:00 p.m., and Utah State will play Oakland (which knocked off Rice in the quarterfinals on Tuesday) Sunday night at 9:00.
