Robert Morris' rematch against Long Island in the Northeast Conference Championship takes place Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. (and will be broadcast on ESPN2/ESPN3). After losing in the championship game at LIU this year, the Colonials are eager for another shot.
"It'd mean a lot," said [Velton] Jones, a redshirt junior guard. "They beat us last year at their place. It'd be a fun experience to be able to go back there" ...
"I know our guys are excited to compete for a championship," Robert Morris coach Andy Toole said. "I know that, having been here last year and playing against a really good LIU team, they have an idea of how difficult it's going to be to win the game."
It won't be easy, but RMU has beaten LIU before -- not in last year's championship game, of course, but on January 26, when Jones scored 23 points and the Colonials beat the Blackbirds 75-66 at home. In that game, RMU had a big first half thanks to Long Island's struggles behind the three-point line, so perhaps the Colonials will be able to sustain that magic on Wednesday.
