Pirates Vs. Giants: Throwing Error Hands San Francisco 4-3 Win

Despite opening the season with a series win over the Philadelphia Phillies, the Pirates dropped their fifth consecutive game on Saturday night against the San Francisco Giants at AT&T Park, 4-3.

With the game tied at 3 entering the bottom of the ninth, reliever Chris Resop took over but never exactly settled in.

Respo gave up a single to second baseman Emmanuel Burris to lead off the inning. Then Burris advanced to third on a pinch-hit single from Ryan Theriot and scored on a throwing error at home plate to give the Giants the win and handing Pittsburgh its sixth loss this season.

The Pirates did get off to a strong start. In the first inning, with runners on first and third, second baseman Neil Walker singled and scored both, giving them an early 2-0 lead. Collectively, they also finished with seven hits.

Charlie Morton got the start for Pittsburgh, pitching five innings and allowing three earned runs. He was given a no decision. Resop was charged with the loss.
