Pirates Vs. Diamondbacks Final Score: Buccos Rally Back To Win 2-1

The Pittsburgh Pirates were trailing the Arizona Diamondbacks 1-0 through the first six innings, as the two teams struggled to pick up hits in the game. The Diamondbacks scored in the first inning on a Jason Kubel single, but in the seventh inning the Buccos were able to rally and tie the ball game on a Pedro Alvarez home run.

In the eighth inning, the Pirates were able to get some more base runners knocking Daniel Hudson out of the game. With two men on, Neil Walker singled to right field scoring Clint Barmes and giving the Pirates the lead and ultimately the win. Juan Cruz came in in the ninth, giving up just one hit and holding on to pick up the save.

With the win, the Pirates take the road series from the Diamond backs 2-1.

Pirates Vs. Diamondbacks Score Update: Arizona Leads 1-0 After 5 Innings

The Pittsburgh Pirates are taking on the Arizona Diamondbacks on the road in the final game of a three-game road series. The teams thus far have split the series, but through five innings so far the Diamondbacks lead the Buccos 1-0 in a game where the hits have been hard to come by. The Buccos have just picked up two hits so far as they try to win the final game and take the series.

Arizona picked up the only run of the game in the first inning when Jason Kubel singled to center field, plating Willie Bloomquist. The two teams have combined for just five hits total as James McDonald and Daniel Hudson have had a good showing so far. Brad Lincoln relieved McDonald in the top of the fifth-inning

Pirates Vs. Diamondbacks Preview: Pittsburgh Wants To Take Advantage Of Arizona Injuries

The Pittsburgh Pirates finally found some offense against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday winning 5-4 thanks to four hits by Andrew McCutchen, including a tie-breaking single with two outs in the top of the ninth inning.

James McDonald will start for the Pirates on Wednesday. McDonald lost his most recent start against the San Francisco Giants after pitching 5.2 innings and allowing three earned runs.

Garrett Jones added three hits in Tuesday's game and will be relied upon to help the Pirates get some offense on the board, as the Pirates have hit a paltry .203 as a team. The Pirates may have a chance for this as two of the Diamondbacks' best, Justin Upton and Chris Young, will not play Wednesday.

In addition, Arizona starting pitcher Daniel Hudson currently has an 8.71 ERA after pitching 3.2 innings in a loss to the Colorado Rockies. Hudson has given up two home runs in each of his first starts.

The game is scheduled for a 3:40 p.m. first pitch from Chase Field in Phoenix. Television coverage will be provided by Root Sports and radio coverage will be provided by 93.7 KDKA-FM.

Jeff Karstens Injury: Karstens To DL With Shoulder Inflammation, Brad Lincoln Promoted

After Jeff Karstens’ early departure from Tuesday’s game, the Pirates have placed him on the disabled list with shoulder inflammation. Brad Lincoln will take his place on the roster. Lincoln will start against the Rockies next Tuesday.

A.J. Burnett, who started the season on the disabled list after bunting a ball off his face in Spring Training, could return soon and bump Lincoln back to Indianapolis, but he still has another rehab start planned, and he hasn’t fared well in his three rehab starts so far for Bradenton and Indianapolis.

Lincoln has been terrific so far in his two Class AAA starts, striking out nine and walking none in 12 innings. He appears likely to be a capable placeholder. He pitched 47.2 innings for the Pirates last season.

It’s unclear when Karstens will return, but shoulder injuries can be serious problems for pitchers.

Pirates Vs. Diamondbacks: Jeff Karstens Injury Mars Bizarre 5-4 Pirates Win

The Pirates won a strange game on Tuesday against the Diamondbacks, thanks in part to big performances from Andrew McCutchen and Garrett Jones.

Jones had an RBI single in the first, but Pirates starter Jeff Karstens gave up two runs in the bottom of the inning before departing with a sore shoulder. That left Jared Hughes to pitch the second, and he gave up an RBI double to Willie Bloomquist before settling down.

The Pirates then tied the game in the bottom of third on an RBI single by Neil Walker and a double by Jones. They took the lead in the sixth on Jones’ solo homer.

The Bucs missed opportunities to pad their lead in the late innings thanks to odd decisions by manager Clint Hurdle, who in the seventh small-balled his way out of a rally and in the eighth declined to pinch hit for Pedro Alvarez with two outs, two on and a lefty on the hill. In the bottom of the eighth, Jason Grilli gave up a solo homer to John McDonald to tie the game.

In the top of the ninth, however, Alex Presley and Casey McGehee singled, and Andrew McCutchen hit a single to bring home Presley and give the Pirates a 5-4 lead.

Juan Cruz got the save; evidently, Joel Hanrahan was unavailable for the night due to a tight hamstring.

Pirates Vs. Diamondbacks: Bucs' Offense Now Faces Ian Kennedy

The Pirates have had a very rough go so far this season, and things don’t look likely to get any easier for them Tuesday night as they face Ian Kennedy and the Diamondbacks.

The Bucs are easily the worst team in the league in scoring, with only 19 runs so far (Oakland is second-to-last, with 28). Kennedy, meanwhile, racked up 222 innings last year, striking out 198 while posting a 2.88 ERA. His component numbers suggest that ERA should have been a little bit worse, and he doesn’t have dominating stuff, but he’s still more than good enough to give the Pirates’ sorry offense fits.

Jeff Karstens starts for the Bucs. He has struck out five and walked two in 11 innings so far this season.

The game begins at 9:40 p.m. Eastern.

Pirates Vs. Diamondbacks: Bullpen Gives Up Two Home Runs, Offense Flatlines As Pirates Lose Again

The Pirates’ early-season woes continued with a 5-1 loss to the Diamondbacks in Arizona Monday night.

The Pirates had just six hits, including one double (a two-out hit by Rod Barajas). The strung together three of their five singles with two outs in the first inning, with Neil Walker knocking in Andrew McCutchen. The Diamondbacks’ Aaron Hill answered with a solo homer in the bottom of the inning, however.

Then, in the fourth, Arizona took a 2-1 lead when Paul Goldschmidt walked, advanced to second on a passed ball, and then came home on a single by Ryan Roberts. Chris Young then hit a two-run homer off Evan Meek in the sixth, and Gerardo Parra led off the seventh with a solo shot against Chris Resop.

The series continues with another matchup Tuesday night at 9:40 p.m.
