Pirates Vs. Diamondbacks: Bullpen Gives Up Two Home Runs, Offense Flatlines As Pirates Lose Again

Stay connected for news and updates

The Pirates’ early-season woes continued with a 5-1 loss to the Diamondbacks in Arizona Monday night.

The Pirates had just six hits, including one double (a two-out hit by Rod Barajas). The strung together three of their five singles with two outs in the first inning, with Neil Walker knocking in Andrew McCutchen. The Diamondbacks’ Aaron Hill answered with a solo homer in the bottom of the inning, however.

Then, in the fourth, Arizona took a 2-1 lead when Paul Goldschmidt walked, advanced to second on a passed ball, and then came home on a single by Ryan Roberts. Chris Young then hit a two-run homer off Evan Meek in the sixth, and Gerardo Parra led off the seventh with a solo shot against Chris Resop.

The series continues with another matchup Tuesday night at 9:40 p.m.
