The traditional running of the Kentucky Oaks on the eve of the Kentucky Derby has been hampered by severe weather at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky Friday evening.
The infield and grandstands were evacuated as the storms neared over fears of high winds associated with the weather system. Here is a radar image from Brad Panovich of WCNC-TV showing the rain moving into the area.
The races are expected to continue, but the track conditions will be sloppy. How will the weather be for the Kentucky Derby Saturday? There is a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms, with also the threat of severe weather. Race officials will need to keep an eye on the skys throughout the day.
