Wimbledon 2012: Strong Tuesday For Americans

In day one of the 2012 Championships at Wimbledon, a few Americans saw their Wimbledon hopes come to an end with both Venus Williams and John Isner getting eliminated on Monday. Venus's sister Serena, though, had a better start to her tournament with a strong victory over Barbora Zahlavova Strycova.

Serena defeated the Czech Republic player in straight sets, losing just six games in a dominating performance. She was one of five Americans to win on Tuesday and earn a pass into the second round as Mardy Fish, Jesse Levine, Brian Baker and Christina McHale all won. McHale was the closest to elimination as she held off Johanna Konta in a third set that required 18 games to decide a winner.

Headlining the remaining Americans left to play on Tuesday is Andy Roddick, the 30th seeded player in men's singles. Also playing for the Americans on Tuesday will be Irina Falconi who will face second seeded Victoria Azarenka of Belarus.
