2012 London Olympics: Allison Schmitt Wins Gold In 200m Freestyle

Allison Schmitt, born in Pittsburgh, won her ther first gold medal of the Olympics and her third overall by winning the 200m freestyle finals on Wednesday. After qualifying with a time of 1:56.15, Schmitt set an Olympic record, finishing the race with a time of 1:53.61, defeating the silver medalist, Muffat Camille of France, by 1.97 seconds.

Austrailian Barrat Bronte claimed the bronze with a time of 1:55.81, beating out American Missy Franklin by one-hundredth of a second. Schmitt participates in one more swimming event at these Olympics, the 4x200m Freestyle relay along with Franklin. She has a great opportunity to medal all four events that she participates in at London.
