A strong finish from the men's 4x200m freestyle relay gave the United States its ninth gold medal of the London Games and its 23rd overall, pitting it in a tie with China atop the medal count leaderboard after four days. The rest of the world, meanwhile, appears to be struggling to keep up.

The Americans put forth a strong effort during Tuesday's events, picking up four golds, one silver and one bronze medal. But they were unable to inch past the Chinese, who matched their total and remain deadlocked for now.

Here's the complete medal count this far, courtesy of Yahoo! Sports.

  1. China, 23 (13 gold, 6 silver, 4 bronze)
  2. United States, 23 (9, 8, 6)
  3. Japan, 13 (1, 4, 8)
  4. France, 11 (4, 3, 4)
  5. South Korea, 8 (3, 2, 3)
