The Big East Conference is expected Tuesday to make Mike Aresco its new commissioner.
The Big East Conference's search for a commissioner has finally reached an end, as the league is expected to make CBS VP Mike Aresco its headman sometime on Tuesday. The news was first reported by Mark Blaudschun of a NewJerseyGuy.com.
Luckily, the news will not affect the Pittsburgh Panthers, who are leaving the Big East in June of 2013 for the Atlantic Coast Conference, and West Virginia Mountaineers, who have already realigned to the Big 12 Conference.
The news does give Panther and Mountaineer fans an idea of what direction the Big East was headed, as Aresco is expected to help the league earn a better television contract. During his time with CBS, Aresco was a big part in the network's contract negotiations.
Aresco will take over the duties of interim commissioner Joseph Bailey III, who took over after John Marinatto resigned in May due to pressure by the conference presidents.
