Steelers Vs. Bills: Lesser-Known Players Fighting For Spots

The Trib writes that two lesser-known Steelers who have made an impact this summer are two players from the secondary, safety Robert Golden and cornerback Josh Victorian.

"I feel like every practice and every game is important for me." Golden said. "I have to compete at a high level every day. I don’t feel any pressure because if I can compete against Antonio Brown, with Ben Roethlisberger throwing him the ball, then I can compete against anybody."

Both these players are probably longshots to make the Steelers' 53-man roster, but the first hurdle for them will be making it through a round of cuts that will drop the Steelers' roster to 75 by Monday. Wideout David Gilreath and linebacker Mortty Ivy will also be trying to make the cut.

Steelers Lounge projects the Steelers' 53-man roster, suggesting that Troy Polamalu, Ryan Mundy, Ryan Clark, Will Allen and Da'Mon Cromartie-Smith will make the team at safety and Ike Taylor, Keenan Lewis, Cortez Allen and Curtis Brown making the team at cornerback, leaving Golden and Victorian out. Steelers Lounge does note, however, that Golden in particular has a shot. There are plenty of position battles elsewhere on the roster, too, including at linebacker, where various injuries, and Jason Worilds' eligibility for the PUP list, give lesser-known players chances to find roster spots and playing time.

Of course, given that the Steelers will have their starters play at least half of the team's upcoming preseason game against the Bills, less-established players are running out of opportunities to make an impression.
