2012 London Olympics Medal Count: China Re-Takes Lead After Sunday's Events

Stay connected for news and updates

After taking the lead in both the overall medal count and the race for gold medals this weekend, the USA had given their advantage back by the end of Sunday's events. The Americans did win medals in six events (2 gold, 1 silver, and 3 bronze), but it wasn't enough for them to hold off China, as SB Nation's medal count video for August 5 demonstrates.

Meanwhile, Great Britain's strong showing at these games continued after a slow start. The hosts will spend most of the second week trying to hold off Russia for the third spot in the overall medal count.

Medals in 18 events will be awarded Monday, including five medals in track and field and three in gymnastics and wrestling.
