Navy Vs. Penn State: Michael Mauti Big Ten Defensive Player Of The Week

Penn State University linebacker Michael Mauti was named the Big Ten's Defensive Player of the Week on Monday for his performance in the school's dominating 34-7 win over Navy on Saturday.

Mauti finished the game with a team-high 12 tackles and helped the team record four turnovers for a second straight week. He is the first Penn State player to be named Defensive Player of the Week since Gerald Hodges earned the weekly award on Oct. 31, 2011.

In addition, freshman defensive end Deion Barnes was named Co-Freshman on the week by the Big Ten. Barnes had a career high five tackles, including a sack and a forced fumble on Navy's first possession of the second half.

Navy Vs. Penn State 2012: 'Mark Emmert's Grinch Heart Shrank 3 More Sizes' During Penn State Win

After back-to-back losses to open up the season, the Penn St. Nittany Lions finally got their first win of the 2012 season, their first since unprecedented sanctions were levied upon them by the NCAA, specifically NCAA President Mark Emmert.

At Penn State blog Black Shoe Diaries, the writers are not unaware that Emmert acted unilaterally in essentially eviscerating the Nittany Lions' program for what many predict to be the next decade. They're not about to forgive him, either. Here's what they had to say after PSU's big, 34-7 victory against also-winless Navy.

He took our bowls. He took scholarships. He took every victory from the last 14 years. But on a perfect late summer day, one hundred thousand fans in Happy Valley still sang and cheered an (0 - 2) Penn State squad to victory over a winless service academy.

And Mark Emmert's grinch heart shrank three more sizes. The prick.

The Nittany Lions have one win in the Bill O'Brien, but man, was it sweet for the Happy Valley faithful.

Navy Vs. Penn State 2012: Final Score And Game Recap

The Penn State Nittany Lions won their first game of the Bill O'Brien era on Saturday afternoon, beating the Navy Midshipmen 34-7 at Beaver Stadium.

Matthew McGloin was excellent throughout the afternoon, completing 12-of-21 for 231 yards and four touchdowns. Perhaps just as impressive and important, the senior didn't toss an interception.

Sophomore Allen Robinson had another spectacular game. The standout wide receiver caught five passes for 136 yards and three touchdowns, easily having the best day of his Penn State career.

The Nittany Lions didn't have a ton of success on the ground, but Michael Zordich picked up 50 yards on 11 carries to lead the team.

The defense had a terrific day, despite allowing the Midshipmen to garner 371 yards of offense. However, they did score a touchdown of their own when Mike Hull recovered a fumble and rumbled 74 yards.

Navy couldn't get any kind of passing attack going, throwing for just 126 yards in the contest.

Navy Vs. Penn State Halftime Score: Nittany Lions Looking Good, Leading 20-0

The Penn State Nittany Lions are leading the Navy Midshipmen 20-0 at halftime in Beaver Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Matthew McGloin has been sensational for Penn State. The senior quarterback has completed 11-of-16 for 196 yards and has thrown a trio of touchdowns.

Allen Robinson has been the big playmaker on the field for the Nittany Lions, hauling in four passes for 111 yards, including two scores. The sophomore receiver is proving to be a dynamic threat for McGloin after not proving to be a high-impact player in his freshman season.

The group is still looking for its first win under new head coach Bill O'Brien, who has struggled through two heartbreaking losses to start the 2012 season.

The Midshipmen haven't been able to find any success in the air, throwing for a pedestrian 15 yards on only eight attempts by Trey Miller. The rushing attack has very good, however, gaining 115 yards on 22 carries.

Bo Snelson and Gee Gee Greene have been the workhorses for Navy, picking up 75 yards on seven carries between them.

'Rally For Resignation' Takes Place At Penn State

Before Penn State takes on Navy on Saturday afternoon, alumni, faculty and current students will assemble on the Old Main lawn in a "Rally for Resignation."

They are demanding the resignation of all members who were on the Board of Trustees in November 2011. In addition, they are calling for Penn State University president Rodney Erickson and Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett to resign. All of these are in response to what they consider an improper handling of the Jerry Sandusky case.

The rally commenced at 10 a.m., and thanks to Laura Nichols of StateCollege.com, we can see that a large group has gathered.

According to Dave Mullaly, a group spokesman, "This is about the present and future of the university, and they have a major stake in what happens to a great institution. It is about leadership; the present and the future leadership at Penn State."
