Mike Wallace, Steelers Won't Talk New Contract Until After Season

Contract extension talks between the Pittsburgh Steelers and wide receiver Mike Wallace will be put on hold until next offseason, Mike Bires of the Beaver County Times is reporting. The news isn't shocking as the Steelers' organization traditionally does not negotiate contract extension once the regular season starts.

What that means is the 6'0, 199-pound wide out, who caught four balls for 37 receiving yards and one touchdown in Sunday's 31-19 loss to the Denver Broncos, will be paid $2.7 million this season. During the preseason, the Steelers were offering a contract of about $50 million for five years, Bires says.

For those not good with math, that's almost a $7 million difference, which could have been avoided if Wallace did not hold out for 34 days during preseason. Now, Wallace could become an unrestricted free agent or be slapped with the franchise tag next season.

Steelers Vs. Broncos: Rashard Mendenhall 'Looked Incredible' In Practice, Teammate Says

The road to a full recovery for Pittsburgh Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall seems to be nearing its final destination, as reports say the 5'10, 225-pound tailback is practicing without any major issues from his surgically repaired knee.

Steel City Insider publisher Jim Wexell quoted Brett Keisel, saying Mendenhall "looked incredible." Lawrence Timmons said "I thought he looked great. He was running well, finishing runs. I'm excited for him."

After going under the knife in Jan. to repair an ACL tear, which he suffered in last season's regular season finale, Mendenhall has slowly been working himself back in preparation to be ready for Pittsburgh's 2012-13 season opener at the Denver Broncos on Sunday.

As of Tuesday, it was still up in the air whether or not Mendenhall would be in Sunday's lineup as coaches and doctors were waiting to see how he felt during practice.

So far, so good.
