Penn State Coaching Search: Official Says Reporter Apologizes For Report

Just hours after reporting Tuesday evening that Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen was close to a deal to replace Joe Paterno and become the next head coach at Penn State, it appears WAPT 16 (Jackson, Miss.) reporter Ray Coleman is running in the opposite direction according to Mississippi State football Director of Media Relations Joe Galbraith.

Kind of WAPT's Ray Coleman to come to Hall of Fame to apologize for station's erroneous report.

As of this posting, WAPT's website still lists the original report as one of its top stories and has not issued a retraction.

ESPN's Joe Schad reported earlier Tuesday that Mullen is at the forefront of Penn State's coaching search. He stopped short of saying a deal is imminent, and at this time, no other sources are reporting a deal, either.
