Former PSU coach Jerry Sandusky indicted on sex charges against minors

Nov 4, 2011 - After a grand jury investigation that lasted more than two years, sex abuse charges against minors have been filed against former Penn State Nittany Lions coach Jerry Sandusky. The charges stem from allegations made by a Clinton county teen who claimed the former PSU coach initiated inappropriate contact with her. The allegations also resulted in similar allegations surfacing from 1998. Disappointing news for the Nittany Lions family.

The charging paperwork has not yet made it to the District Magistrate Judge's office in Centre County. However, felony charges of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse of someone under 16, aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault of someone under 16, indecent assault of someone under 13, and corruption of minors charges have been filed in the state court docket system.

The offense dates include 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002, and 2005. There are 40 counts included in the paperwork filed against him.

Sandusky, who retired after the 1999 season, was once considered a potential successor to Joe Paterno. He had established a solid reputation for his coordinating efforts, particularly molding linebackers into NFL-ready tackling machines. Upon his retirement from coaching, Sandusky devoted his time to The Second Mile, a charity he had founded in 1977 that positively impacted the lives of hundreds of thousands of kids across the state. He stepped down from his leadership position there last fall while the investigation was ongoing, but The Second Mile remains active to this day.
