Penn State Coaching Search: Darren Perry Reportedly Interested In Job

Much of the talk surrounding Penn State's search to replace former coach Joe Paterno this week has been centered around Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen, who ESPN's Joe Schad reported on Tuesday is a frontrunner for the position.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Ron Musselman reports, however, that the Green Bay Packers' Darren Perry has expressed interest in taking over in Happy Valley.

A familiar face for Nittany Lions fans, Perry earned first-team All-American honors as a defensive back at Penn State in 1991. He was selected in the eighth round of the 1992 NFL Draft by the Steelers and spent seven seasons in Pittsburgh before suiting up for the Chargers, Ravens and Saints.

His coaching experience is limited to the professional ranks, where he's worked with the Bengals, Steelers, Raiders and Packers since 2002. He currently serves as safeties coach in Green Bay under Mike McCarthy

Whether he'd be a good fit with no experience at the college level or as a head coach or coordinator is unclear. At the very least, though, he's reportedly interested in the job, which is more than can be said about most other rumored candidates for the job right now.
