Penn State Coaching Search: Jim Grobe A Candidate According To Report

As Week No. 4 of Penn State's search to replace Joe Paterno as head coach comes to an end, a new name is emerging as a candidate to take the job.

The Harrisburg Patriots-News' David Jones reports Wake Forest coach Jim Grobe could be a backup-plan if acting athletic director David Joyner fails to woo Boise State's Chris Petersen or the Tennessee Titans' Mike Munchak.

Grobe just finished a 6-6 season with the Demon Deacons, good for a berth in the Music City Bowl against Mississippi State on Dec. 30. In his 11-year career at Wake Forest, Grobe is 68-66. He led the team to an Atlantic Coach Conference championship and Orange Bowl berth in 2006.

The 59-year old previously spent a stint as head coach at Ohio, where he had a 33-33-1 record in six seasons. He also made stops at Emory and Henry, Marshall and Air Force as an assistant.
