Penn State Coaching Search: Texas A&M Reportedly Chasing Chris Petersen

There's been a lot of smoke about Penn State's potential interest in Boise State coach Chris Petersen in recent days, but according to the Houston Chronicle's Brent Zwerneman, another school could be trying to get in on sixth-year Broncos head man as well.

COLLEGE STATION – Kevin Sumlin is still Texas A&M’s primary target, but another name has entered the mix, according to TexAgs.com guru Billy Liucci: Boise State’s Chris Petersen.

I believe when the dust settles on all of the activity of the past week, it’s going to be Sumlin, but any interest in Petersen (or any interest in return) is, of course, intriguing. He’s likely to be in the $4 million range should A&M try and bring him onboard.

Sumlin is currently the head coach at Houston, Penn State's opponent in the TicketCity Bowl on Jan. 2 and is a hot coaching name as well at the moment. Penn State has not been tied to Sumlin yet, but he remains a big player nationally.

And so, Penn State fans should probably start rooting for Sumlin-to-the-Aggies if they want Petersen for two reasons: No. 1, the absence of their head coach should make the Cougars more vulnerable come the bowl game, and No. 2, if the Nittany Lions have any interest in Petersen, they need as many high profile jobs as possible, including A&M's, to be filled by someone else.
