Penn State Sports Update: The "Other" Sports

The Penn State men's basketball team lost a heart-breaker in yesterday's first round of the NCAA tournament, and the football team opens spring practice tomorrow. Luckily for Penn State fans, there are plenty of other rooting interests this weekend.

There are two other NCAA championships going on as we speak, in addition to other regularly scheduled athletic events.

The women's basketball team will open the women's NCAA tournament tomorrow against Dayton in Philadelphia. The Nittany Lions are the No. 6 seed in the Philadelphia Region, where UConn is the early favorite.

Also in Philadelphia, the NCAA Wrestling national championships are taking place. Penn State started off strong, taking an early lead after Day One. They have since fallen behind Cornell. At the time of writing this, Penn State trailed by 0.5 points, 61.0 to 60.5. Iowa (51.5) and American (49.0) are the only other schools that are close.

Finally, the men's volleyball team hosts IPFW and Ball State this weekend, the second-to-last home weekend for the Nittany Lions before conference and national tournaments. Currently ranked No.9, Penn State looks to take some momentum heading into the postseason.
