Penn State vs. Eastern Michigan: Derek Moye Makes History Against Eagles

When Derek Moye first became a regular in Penn State's offense in the beginning of 2009, many were wondering how the Nittany Lions would replace the deadly wide receiver trio of Derrick Williams, Deon Butler and Jordan Norwood in the passing game.

Two years later, they're now wondering how Penn State will replace Moye, a senior, when this season is over.

With six catches for 65 yards and two touchdowns on Saturday in Penn State's 34-6 win against Eastern Michigan, Moye became just the sixth Penn State player to eclipse 2,000 yards receiving in his career and moved into third all-time on Penn State's receiving yardage list with 2,026.

"He's a heck of a receiver," coach Joe Paterno said after the game. "I'm repeating myself. How many times have I said our receivers are pretty darn good?"

The praise wasn't limited to the head coach, either. Offensive lineman Quinn Barham expressed his admiration for Moye's accomplishments after the game...and hoped he might be able to get something out of it, too.

"Drinks on him tonight," Barham said. "No, but seriously, it was a good thing for him, and really help us want to work harder for him and he can get even more [yards]."

Moye's second touchdown catch of the day was the 17th in his career and boosted him into sole possession of fourth all-time in receiving touchdowns.

He's also threatening to break into the top-five all-time in receptions. His 124 career catches are just on behind O.J. McDuffie, who is fifth on the list.

After the game, Moye talked about the performance of the offense, and how injuries to Michael Mauti and D'Anton Lynn might affect the team moving forward.
