Penn State Vs. Indiana State: Defense Tough, Kicking Game Not So Much Early On

The Penn State defense is looking pretty nasty early. After forcing a three-and-out on Indiana State's first possession, the Nittany Lions forced a turnover on their second when Drew Astorino picked off a third down pass to set Penn State up deep in Sycamore territory.

Evan Lewis was unable to convert the ensuing field goal attempt, however, so Astorino's efforts went for naught. The kicking game will be an area to keep an eye on this afternoon in what should otherwise be a laugher. Lewis was the surprise winner of the place kicking job and coach Joe Paterno indicated that he was a little concerned to see how things would shake out. Obviously, things aren't off to a good start.

One quick note to pass along. Paterno is coaching from the press box this afternoon after expressing optimisim earlier in the week he'd be able to join his players on the field. It looks like his injury is still giving him trouble, though, so it might be a while before we see him down there.

Penn State just forced another quick stop. We'll let you know how the next Penn State drive goes in the next update.
