CBI Tournament 2012: Pitt Vs. Wofford

Pitt takes on Wofford in their opening game of the CBI Tournament on Wednesday.

In the Terriers, the Panthers will face a team that won 19 games and finished second in the Southern Conference. Still, Wofford has struggled against top competition and probably will find defeating the Panthers a bit difficult.

Pitt has scored more and shot and rebounded better than the Terriers, doing it all against better competition this season.

The Panthers haven’t been great at home this year, going 11-7. But a game at the Pete should give Pitt a sizable advantage over the visiting Terriers. Wofford has been a respectable 7-9 on the road this season, but have only defeated one team away from home with a winning record (The College of Charleston). And against other schools from major conferences, Wofford has gone 1-3. The Terriers defeated Wake Forest, but lost to South Carolina, Wisconsin, and Georgia by a combined average of nearly 20 points a game.

Wofford also isn’t as deep as Pitt. The Panthers have ten players who average at least ten minutes a game to the Terriers’ seven. If Pitt can get any of Wofford’s starters in foul trouble, the Terriers will be even more shorthanded.

Add it all up, and Pitt should move onto the second round.
