Pitt football concludes spring practice with the annual Blue-Gold game slated for Saturday afternoon. Here's what to watch for during the contest.
Spring practice for the Pitt Panthers will conclude Saturday afternoon at Martorelli Stadium at North Hills High School with the annual Blue-Gold Spring Game.
This will be the first chance for fans to see the Panthers play under new head coach Paul Chrysts system, while checking out the many new faces on the squad.
The quarterback position was yet again a hot topic during spring practice for Panther fans, however all signs point to senior Tino Sunseri getting the starting gig. Fans will want to keep an eye on him throughout the afternoon and his backups, including highly touted freshman quarterback Trey Anderson.
Reports are that running back Isaac Bennett has had a tremendous spring, and will be expected to be the starter for the Panthers with Ray Graham still out with an ACL injury. Bennett has big-play potential and should be a treat to watch on Saturday.
On the defensive side of the ball, watch out for safety, and Michigan transfer, Ray Vinopal. He has had a knack for making huge plays and forcing turnovers all during spring practice and could be a steady contributor on the Panthers defense. There is also a huge battle at the linebacker position for playing time, so expect to see plenty of competition during the game at that spot.
The Blue-Gold game is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Martorelli Stadium at North Hills High School. Coverage will be on 93.7 FM The Fan.
