Point guard Josh Newkirk has committed to Pittsburgh, giving the Panthers an infusion of youth in the backcourt.
The Pittsburgh Panthers were able to land three-star point guard Josh Newkirk on Wednesday, according to CardiacHill.com.
Jamie Dixon's program gets a nice boost with the addition of Newkirk, who hails from North Carolina. The signing is especially intriguing with Pitt's upcoming move to the ACC, since Newkirk is in the ACC's prime regional territory.
Despite having offers from Tennessee, Arizona, Memphis, Missouri, Georgia Tech and North Carolina State, Newkirk decided the best fit for him would be the Steel City.
NBE Basketball ranks Newkirk as the 90th best high school player in the country.
Over at CardiacHill.com, the implications of this move are perfectly detailed:
Newkirk joins power forward Mike Young and fills out Pitt's available scholarships for the class of 2013. With the possibility of Steven Adams being a one-and-done, however, I'd expect Pitt to continue recruiting center BeeJay Anya. Newkirk, Anya and Young all visited Pitt for the Virginia Tech game, so hats off to the football team and Mike Young for helping make this happen. Two down, one to go.
