Penguins Vs. Rangers: Dustin Jeffrey Steps Up As Pens Win In Shootout

Dustin Jeffrey, stepping in with centers Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Mark Letestu, came through in a big way against the Rangers on Tuesday, scoring a power play goal in the second period and adding the decisive goal in a shootout, as the Pens won 4-3.

The Rangers took an early lead, with Brandon Prust providing the only goal of the first period. Artem Anisimov scored early in the second period to give New York a 2-0 advantage. After that, though, the Pens scored three straight goals, with Jeffrey, Mike Rupp and Chris Kunitz combining to give the Pens a 3-2 lead. Jordan Staal received a ten-minute match penalty, however, for punching Prust, and Derek Stepan scored on the ensuing power play.

There was no scoring in the third period or in overtime, so the Pens and Rangers headed to a shootout, in which Marc-Andre Fleury and Henrik Lundqvist traded saves until Jeffrey finally broke through on the Pens' seventh attempt. Fleury saved all seven shots in the shootout.

The Pens face off against the New York Islanders on Wednesday.
