Jaromir Jagr Rumors: Penguins Have Not Made Offer

The Post-Gazette reports that the Pittsburgh Penguins have not yet made an offer to Jaromir Jagr, although there evidently is interest on both sides.

“I’ve spoken to [agent Petr Svoboda] a couple times about Jagr. I’ve talked to Jagr once,” [Penguins GM Ray] Shero said after attending the NHL Awards show, where the Penguins’ Dan Bylsma received the Jack Adams Award as coach of the year.

“That’s really about it. We have not made an offer. I’m going to talk to our staff to see whether there would be interest. We have to decide internally whether or not we want to [pursue signing Jagr].”

Shero knows best, I suppose, but most Pens fans want to see this happen – not only because it’s Jagr, but because he can help on the power play and at wing. But the good news is that Shero says that both Jagr and his agent have said that Jagr really is serious about coming back to the NHL – he’s not just using the Penguins’ interest as leverage to get a better deal in Russia.

Jagr’s agent says not to expect his client to sign “in the next couple of days,” the Post-Gazette reports.
