Pascal Dupuis Re-Signs With Penguins

The Penguins have re-signed Pascal Dupuis to a two-year contract with a cap hit of $1.5 million each season. Dupuis would have become a free agent on Friday if he hadn’t signed.

Here’s Pensburgh on the signing:

Dupuis is a valuable player who can slot into a variety of roles on any line and is a good penalty killer. His speed and forechecking make him a natural for the Penguins system.

At two years and just a nominal $100,000 pay raise off his last contract, this has to be considered a win for the Penguins.

Dupuis had 17 goals and 20 assists in 2010-2011, to go along with 18 goals and 20 assists in 2009-2010. Dupuis is a solid performer, and the salary to which the Penguins have signed him is very reasonable. Now the Penguins can set their sights on Jaromir Jagr (who could reach an agreement with an NHL team such as the Penguins at some point this week) and Tyler Kennedy. Due to the salary cap, the Pens have about $7 million left with which to pursue them.
