Jaromir Jagr's Agent Meets With Penguins, Who Haven't Yet Offered A Deal

Jaromir Jagr’s agent, Petr Svoboda, says that as of late Tuesday afternoon, the Penguins had still not made an offer for his client, Dave Molinari at the Post-Gazette reports. Svoboda did, however, talk to Penguins general manager Ray Shero today, so it sounds like the Penguins do continue to have interest. The Detroit Red Wings are also interested in Jagr, as is another team, perhaps the Montreal Canadiens.

I’m not sure if there’s anything we should read into this, but there probably isn’t. It just might be another day or two before we hear anything more specific about Jagr’s destination. Jagr’s name has been connected to the Pens so many times in the last week that at this point, it would be somewhat surprising if the Penguins didn’t sign him, despite Shero’s apparent hesitation. He’s a great fit for the Pens both in terms of his skills and in what he means to the organization.

The Trib quotes Svoboda saying earlier Tuesday that he would meet with Shero Tuesday afternoon (a meeting which presumably has now taken place) and that Svoboda hopes to have a better idea about Jagr’s destination tomorrow, meaning Wednesday. We’ll see – it wouldn’t shock me if this went on for a couple more days.
