Jaromir Jagr To Decide On Penguins' Offer Thursday

The Trib’s latest report on Jaromir Jagr’s status seems to backtrack a bit from its previous one, which said that Jagr and the Penguins already had a deal that would put him in black and gold next year, even before he departed for the United States.

“We are going to exchange some things,” Svoboda said, adding that he would also speak with Detroit and Montreal about Jagr.

“This is obviously a tough decision for Jaromir. His heart is in Pittsburgh.”

Jagr evidently is in New York, and we can probably expect something to be announced today. But it appears at least possible that the Detroit Red Wings and one other team are still in the mix. The Trib does, however, still indicate that some folks close to Mario Lemieux still believe that Jagr and the Penguins already have a deal.

There’s nothing to do, at this point, but wait and see. There’s been so much noise surrounding this signing, and so little signal. What we know, at this point, is that the Penguins have made an offer, that they’re one of a handful of teams in on Jagr, and that Jagr loves Mario Lemieux and has a deep history with the city of Pittsburgh. Until an unambiguous announcement is made, that’s all we’re likely to know.
