Penguins Sign Forward Steve Sullivan To Add Scoring At Wings, While Mike Rupp Goes To Rangers

The Penguins have signed forward Steve Sullivan to a one-year deal worth $1.5 million, the team’s official website reports. Sullivan, who turns 37 next week, has been limited by injuries in three of his last four seasons, all with the Predators, but he was healthy and effective in 2009-2010, with 17 goals and 34 assists in 82 games. He’s a small winger who adds a bit of scoring skill. He’s a nice offensive addition to the Penguins, if he can stay healthy, but fans who wanted Jaromir Jagr to sign probably won’t find a huge amount of consolation in this move.

Also, former Penguins forward Mike Rupp has signed a three-year, $4.5 million deal with the Rangers. Rupp had nine goals and eight assists for the Penguins last season. He was a big guy who could fight, but the Penguins probably didn’t want to pay as much or as long as the Rangers did.
