With Sidney Crosby's Return On Horizon, Penguins' Offseason Will Be Quiet

Josh Yohe at the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that with JagrWatch (or 'JagrGate,' maybe?) out of the way, the Penguins can turn their attention to signing Sidney Crosby and Jordan Staal to long-term deals. That, though, can come later; in the meantime, the Penguins won't be particularly active. They will already get a big boost simply from getting Crosby and Evgeni Malkin back and healthy, and are already a very good team with the personnel they currently have. The recent news that Crosby is ready to come back and is preparing for the upcoming season the way he does every year was much more important to the Penguins than Jaromir Jagr or any other free agent possibly could be.

There might still be a move or two, but in the meantime, it appears the Penguins' offseason has mostly already ended. It began spectacularly, with JagrGate, but it's ending quietly, with Jagr signing with the rival Flyers and little left to show for the offseason except Steve Sullivan. In the end, that's fine – the Penguins already have much of what they need to thrive.
