NHL lockout: Penguins players mum about legal maneuverings

Sidney Crosby and the rest of the Pittsburgh Penguins are not speaking about the newest legal maneuverings of the NHLPA.

For the most part, Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby has been vocal about the NHL lockout and his hopes of negotiating a new collective bargaining agreement.

However, since it was reported late last week the NHLPA and its 700 members have until Thursday to vote on disbanding their union, Crosby and many other Penguins players have been silent on the issue, Rob Rossi of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.

Penguins veterans Craig Adams, Matt Cooke, Brooks Orpik and Sidney Crosby each declined comment on the vote Monday after a players‘ organized practice at Southpointe.

Those players also declined to discuss details of legal action taken by the NHL last Friday, when the league filed a class-action complaint in New York federal court and an unfair labor practice charge with the National Labor Relations Board.

Adams was named by the league in the complaint.

"I‘m aware I‘m in it," he said, declining additional comment.

The NHL lockout has reached its 93rd day and there are no schedule bargaining sessions between the player and owners.

So far, the league has canceled games through Dec. 30 and there's no signs of things changing soon -- the question now has changed from when the lockout will end to when commissioner Gary Bettman will cancel the remainder of the regular season?

Reports say the magic number is 48 games. If the NHL can't end its labor disputes before then, the season will be canceled.
